How Does It Work

Discs store information in spiral grooves called pits which run from the center to the periphery. The data is accessed when a laser reads the other side of these pits i.e. the ‘bumps.’ If a disk contains a large amount of information, the pits are packed closely together and are much smaller. As the pits become smaller the laser needs to become more accurate in its ability to read the data. This is exactly why we can store more mp3 songs in a CD compared to a normal Audio CD.

A blu-ray laser thus has the capacity to read small information than a conventional laser used to read a DVD. Blue lasers have a shorter wavelength (405 nanometers) compared to red lasers (650 nanometers) and the smaller beam has the ability to focus on the pits more accurately. This is due to the shorter wavelength that the blue light has, compared to a red on. A blue-Ray discs can read information recorded in pits as small as 0.15 microns twice as small as the pits on a DVD. Blu-ray has reduced the track pitch from 0.74 microns to 0.32 microns. Rachet and Clank tools of destruction review

The lack of highly appealed games on Sony’s playstation 3 was finally silenced back in November with the release of Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank: ToD. Today I’ll be talking about the 2nd one as it was pulled out of the old box to entertain us once again.

Gameplay

The R&C series and playstation go way back and the gameplay has stayed pretty much the same for several generations now. You play the -dog like- character Ratchet that goes through one of its adventures. But with this being yet another adventure in a huge collection of you start to wonder if it’s worth spending another 60 bucks on the good dog. Well the story concerns a galactic leader Tachyon taking over all planets and killing all the Lombax to go with it. Wonder where they got it from? Well think 40s. Of course Ratchet feels assigned as being a lombax to prevent all this and to help him a character named Clank comes along. This -cool robot- character is also playable at some points of the game but leaving all your great weapons behind to play robot isn’t that fun to be honest.
It’s not the story but those great weapons that make the game great. You can get them almost always playing trough a planet leaving the only problem being your bolts. It’s not that you hardly get them but the choice of weapon is insane and just waits till you play it a second time. From green beasts, killing insects, shotgun like guns and flying tornados. You name it, they’ve got it.

This is the main appeal of the game really; obtaining all gettable weapons is both fun and time wasting.
Above that you can also upgrade your weapon to make it just perfect, and you’ll need it. Even though the game is easy for most, always keep track of your upgrades otherwise it may give you a hard time after all. And if it does get ready to replay some epic battles.

Presentation

When Sony introduced the CELL processor in their PS3 not everyone was happy getting their developers hat on. But with the PS3 gaining momentum more developers are started to get it right and they all copied it from Insomniac.
Ratchet & Clank looks absolutely stunning; it’s like an interactive Pixar movie. Some may argue because it doesn’t have killer textures like in Uncharted or lightning seen in Call of Duty but it has everything you want in an animation style game plus more.
Too bad stunning visuals don’t always get stunning surround sound to back it up. The sound is decent don’t get me wrong but it’s like watching an epic movie with no bass, it just isn’t perfect. Other presentation values like voice acting and cut scenes are great and fun to watch. Although they suffer from the weak story, the actors and animators made it both funny and satisfying to watch leaving a great experience with it.

Ratchet is still alive on the PS3 with killer graphics and great gameplay. But with this being the 6th series repeat you might want to put your bucks on another story.

Nintendo`s Wii Sports Resort is a great game with a neat concept. Many people love going to resorts and having a game that highlights some of the fun activities offered through resort vacations is very appealing. This game is perfect for all ages and can really bring friends and family together. With just a few setbacks, this game is well worth taking a look.

This game is packed solid with mini games. There are 12 different sports altogether, but most of the sports have some extra game features that can create about 20 games in all. For example in the Frisbee dog mini game, you can select from three amazing Frisbees and then head over to Frisbee golf if you wish.

The controllers have been improved since Nintendo introduced the Wii Sports back in 2007. It is more accurate with the game and follows what you are doing perfectly. Table tennis if fun to play, because you really have to be on target with what you are doing or the ball falls off the table or you get a miss. With golf, your hands and arms need to be positioned right, or you won`t get a good swing. Even the bowling game has seen much improvement, as now you can actually curve the ball or angle it as it heads down the alley.

Most of the games are better played with a friend. It seems more challenging and definitely more fun, then playing solo. When you are playing Wii Resort Sports alone, there is not much fun as there is no one to compete with. And when competition is not involved it can be hard to stay interested.

The graphics are what you would expect from Nintendo Wii, they are bright and colorful with average graphics, nothing too special. The menu is basic and easy to access, making it simple for any player to get into it and do what they need to do.

The Motion Plus accessory is much needed for this game and comes in the package. It is ultra sensitive and will capture every move you make. And while this accessory can be switched from player to player, it can also be fun to play at the same time as a peer, and so a second Motion Plus accessory would have to be picked up.

Many of these games, while fun at first, soon lose their appeal. Riding a bike for example and swinging your arms around wildly can only hold is fun for so long. While many people love playing this game and do so with friends when they come over, many will admit to playing it by themselves when the excitement wears thin.

The Nintendo Wii Sports Resorts is a game that can provide lots of resort fun. When friends come over or a part is happening, this game can create some interesting memories for everyone. It is a fun game that will have you swinging your arms, kicking your feet and moving your body in some pretty hilarious moves.

The only downside is that you have to pick up a second Motion Plus accessory if you want to play someone at the same time, the games get boring after a while and the graphics are not mind blowing. However, the game pulls its weight in other areas and balances it out with some good features.
